The Ford Everest, also known as the Ford Endeavour in the Indian market, is a mid-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by Ford since 2003 over three generations. The Everest is a five-door SUV variant of the Ford Ranger four-doorpickup truck.

  • First generation (2003–2006): based on the 1998 to 2006 Ford Ranger, which in turn derives from the 1998 to 2006 Mazda B-Series.
  • Second generation (2006–2015): based on the 2006 to 2011 Ford Ranger, which in turn derives from the 2006 to 2011 Mazda BT-50, this model received a facelift in 2009.
  • Third generation (2015–present): based on the Ford Ranger (T6), and designed in Australia, but built in Thailand, available from 2015.[1]

Ford revealed the concept for the next-generation Ford Everest in August 2013. The Everest SUV features Kinetic Design cues similar to the EcoSport,Kuga/Escape, and Edge.[16] The vehicle will be offered in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, mated either to the 2.2-L or 3.2-L Duratorq, depending on the market. Presently, no plans exist to offer the Everest outside of the Asia-Pacific markets; in North America, the Everest overlaps with the Explorer, Flex, andExpedition in terms of size and cost, as well as seating, cargo, and towing capacity;[17][18] however, in the Philippines, the Everest is sold alongside the Explorer and long wheelbase Expedition.[19] In China, the Ford Everest is manufactured by Jiangling Motors, at Jiangling’s Nanchang factory.[20]

The Ford Motor Company (commonly referred to simply as Ford) is an American multinational automaker headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. The company sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand and most luxury cars under theLincoln brand. Ford also owns Brazilian SUV manufacturer, Troller, and Australian performance car manufacturer FPV. In the past it has also produced tractors and automotive components. Ford owns a 2.1% stake in Mazda of Japan, an 8% stake in Aston Martin of the United Kingdom, and a 49% stake in Jiangling of China. It also has a number of joint-ventures, one in China (Changan Ford Mazda), one in Taiwan (Ford Lio Ho), one in Thailand (AutoAlliance Thailand), one in Turkey (Ford Otosan), and one in Russia (Ford Sollers). It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is controlled by the Ford family, although they have minority ownership.[4]

Ford introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars and large-scale management of an industrial workforce using elaborately engineered manufacturing sequences typified by moving assembly lines; by 1914 these methods were known around the world as Fordism. Ford’s former UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover, acquired in 1989 and 2000 respectively, were sold to Tata Motors in March 2008. Ford owned the Swedish automaker Volvo from 1999 to 2010.[5] In 2011, Ford discontinued the Mercury brand, under which it had marketed entry-level luxury cars in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East since 1938.

During the financial crisis at the beginning of the 21st century, it was close to bankruptcy, but it has since returned to profitability.

Ford is the second-largest U.S.-based automaker (preceded by General Motors) and the fifth-largest in the world based on 2010 vehicle sales.[6] At the end of 2010, Ford was the fifth largest automaker in Europe.[7] Ford is the eighth-ranked overall American-based company in the 2010 Fortune 500 list, based on global revenues in 2009 of $118.3 billion.[8] In 2008, Ford produced 5.532 million automobiles[9] and employed about 213,000 employees at around 90 plants and facilities worldwide.

The company went public in 1956 but the Ford family, through special Class B shares, still retain 40 percent voting rights.[10]

Ford Motor Company sells a broad range of automobiles under the Ford marque worldwide, and an additional range of luxury automobiles under the Lincoln marque in the United States. The company has sold vehicles under a number of other marques during its history. The Mercury brand was introduced by Ford in 1939, continuing in production until 2011 when poor sales led to its discontinuation.[74] In 1958, Ford introduced the Edsel brand, but poor sales led to its discontinuation in 1960. In 1985, the Merkur brand was introduced in the United States to market products produced by Ford of Europe; it was discontinued in 1989.

Ford acquired the British sports car maker Aston Martin in 1989, later selling it on March 12, 2007,[75] although retaining an 8% stake.[76][77] Ford purchased Volvo Cars of Sweden in 1999,[78] selling it to Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010. In November 2008, it reduced its 33.4% controlling interest in Mazda of Japan to a 13.4% non-controlling interest.[79][80] On November 18, 2010, Ford reduced their stake further to just 3%, citing the reduction of ownership would allow greater flexibility to pursue growth in emerging markets. Ford and Mazda remain strategic partners through exchanges of technological information and joint ventures, including an American joint venture plant in Flat Rock, Michigan called Auto Alliance.[81]Ford sold the United Kingdom-based Jaguar and Land Rover companies and brands to Tata Motors of India in March 2008.
