The Mahindra Thar is a compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road and sport utility vehicle (SUV), manufactured by Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. The vehicle was launched in the Indian market on October 4, 2010 to fill the void left by its predecessor the Mahindra MM540. The Thar has been voted one of the top 10 SUVs available in the Indian market. Three variants-DI 2WD, DI 4WD and CRDe, with available on soft top version.
The Thar also comes with a 7 seater option, though it can be converted into a two seater.

Over the past few years, the company has taken interest in new industries and in foreign markets. They entered the two-wheeler industry by taking over Kinetic Motors in India. M&M also has a controlling stake in the REVA Electric Car Company and acquired South Korea’s SsangYong Motor Company in 2011. In 2010–11 M&M entered in micro drip irrigation with the takeover of EPC Industries Ltd in Nashik.
